Long Beach, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers women's volleyball team dropped to 15-12 on the season and 7-6 in the Big West Conference as the Tigers fell, 3-0, to Long Beach State on Friday, Nov. 18. The win moved the 49ers to 22-5 overall and 11-2 in conference.

Game scores for the match were 30-23, 30-16, 30-25.

Game one was a back and forth battle, featuring 11 ties in the first 36 points. Tied at 19-19, Long Beach State scored three straight points on Pacific errors. The Tigers pulled within one at 22-21, but the 49ers pushed the lead back to three at 24-21 on a kill from Ali Daley and a Pacific error. Pacific senior Ashley Groothuis (Aurora, Neb.) pulled Pacific back within two with her third kill of the first game. Long Beach State, however, scored six of the final seven points to take game one 30-23.

Pacific dropped game two, 30-16 as the Tigers hit .026 as a team in the second game. Long Beach State, meanwhile, hit .342.

The Tigers battled back in game three as the Tigers out hit Long Beach State .229 to .222 in the third and final game. The 49ers, however, used a couple of long runs early in the game to as Long Beach State sprinted out to a 16-10 lead and went on to take game three 30-25.

Groothuis led the Tigers with 10 kills, while Long Beach State got a match-high 14 kills from Robin Miramontes.

Pacific will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 19 as the Tigers close out their Big West Conference season at UC Irvine at 7 p.m.
